Dog U.S. Import: CDC Requirements for International Travel

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently updating requirements for dogs returning to the United States, especially those coming from high-risk rabies countries. It’s critical that all necessary paperwork and examinations are completed before leaving the U.S. If a dog departs without fulfilling these steps, it will need to be re-entered as though it is a foreign-vaccinated dog.

Key Steps for Pet Owners

Check the CDC’s Website & Checklists: Before your dog travels, review the CDC’s guidelines to confirm all necessary requirements and timelines for your dog’s journey.

Certification of U.S.-Issued Rabies Vaccination: Lodi Animal Hospital can help complete the necessary form and submit it for USDA endorsement.

The cost for completing and submitting the form is $170.

The USDA endorsement fee is $101.

Important Update: Until July 31, 2025, a USDA-endorsed health certificate can temporarily replace the Certification of U.S.-Issued Rabies Vaccination form.

Important Shipping Label Information

For countries that require an original ink USDA endorsement for international health certificates, Lodi Animal Hospital will assist you in creating an overnight UPS express shipping label to ensure there are no delays in processing. The cost for shipping typically ranges from $70 to $100.
